History of our shool
It is possible to recall the history of our school from archival materials and the town chronicle. The apprentice workshop was founded in 1946, and the first mechanical locksmiths learnt there. The vocational training was carried out in railway workshops. Later, our apprentice centre obtained next buildings from the property of the Czechoslovak Railways. Specialized courses – the locksmith of rail vehicles, the operating locksmith, the mechanic for motor locomotives and motor cars, and the railwayman were established. The name of the apprentice centre has been changed several times for last 50 years. Its present name is the secondary school (SŠ).
Present
At present,SŠ is the only school in the South Bohemia where the branches are aimed at the railway transportation. This school is specialized in transport and has got the high ratio of successfully employed graduates. Integrated secondary school is one of 9 schools with pronounced over-regional range within the framework of the South Bohemia. As the only school in the Czech Republic it provides the full education in railway three-year- and four-year specializations. That is why a number of students from other regions interested in transport problems increases.
This school has got except its own building two residences. Students can have the all day feeding. There are modern classrooms and laboratories, special classrooms and school workshops for technical training in the school building. School workshops are meant for locksmiths and electricians. Railwaymen and operators for operation and economy of transportation practise their training during their studies at the Czech Railways workplaces. During their studies some students pass special exams which allowed them to work as a conductor e.g. (not only during holidays but they get an overview about possibilities of their future work fulfilment).
Our school has organized retraining courses for the staff of the Czech Railways for several years. The aim of that retraining is to complete their education in transportation and electric specializations.
Previously, students studied the electric specialization, then other students started to study the transportation specialization. At present more than 200 students in seven classes study in both specializations.
Graduates of these courses gain professional knowledge and skills and they must also demonstrate their knowledge in Czech, English,German and Maths at leaving examinations.
